EG4 6000XP Wi-Fi Dongle Won't Connect: What EG4 Says and What Happened to Us
The EG4 dongle joins only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and needs a registration code. What EG4's guide says, and what stopped ours.
Last reviewed 2026-10-11.
What the manufacturer documents
- The guide says the dongle supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; 5 GHz is not supported and Wi-Fi 6 is not currently supported. The listed standard is IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 to 2.48 GHz. (eg4electronics.com)
- The guide says a customer code is required to register a monitor account, and that the installer code must be provided by the installation personnel or the distributor. (eg4electronics.com)
- The guide has a Wi-Fi setup section that uses a button on the dongle, the dongle's own network and the EG4 mobile app, and a separate Ethernet setup section. We do not reproduce those steps. (eg4electronics.com)
- The guide's light meanings: all lights on means communication is normal; INV flashing means a communication failure between the dongle and inverter; Cloud flashing means an internet connection failure; IP flashing means the router has not enabled automatic IP address allocation. (eg4electronics.com)
- The guide's troubleshooting section covers a device that shows offline in the monitor while the lights are normal, and gives an approximate recovery time of about 3 minutes for the procedure it describes. (eg4electronics.com)
- The guide gives range figures of 148 ft (45 m) indoors and 328 ft (100 m) unobstructed, with a built-in antenna. (eg4electronics.com)
What happened to us
- Our 6000XP worked as an inverter straight away. The dongle took days. (video)
- The instructions said to get a code from the seller. We emailed the seller, and when more than three business days passed without a reply we guessed a code based on the seller's name, in lower case. Later, an engineer who reached out through a forum told us capitalisation of the code does not matter. (video)
- When things went wrong we deleted our monitoring account to start over. We could not recreate it because the account still existed, and the dongle's serial number was still registered. In our case deleting the account did not release the device, and we had to contact support. (video)
- Our network was 2.4 GHz only, but the dongle still would not join. Our network name had a special character and our password was a long sentence full of special characters. A second router with a short plain name and a simple password connected. EG4's guide gives no character or length limits, so we cannot say which of the two was the cause. (video)
- The Wi-Fi and cloud lights were solid, yet the people helping us said they could not see the device. We stopped trusting the lights alone. (video)
- Our dongle sits next to metal enclosures, which is poor for a radio signal. It still worked. (video)
Symptoms compared
| Symptom | What EG4's guide points to | What we saw |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot join the router | The guide says the network must be 2.4 GHz; Wi-Fi 6 and 5 GHz are not supported | A special-character name and a very long password did not work; a simple 2.4 GHz network did |
| Cloud light flashing | The guide describes an internet connection failure | Solid lights did not tell us whether registration had worked |
| IP light flashing | The guide says the router has not enabled automatic IP allocation | Not seen |
| INV light flashing | The guide describes a dongle-to-inverter communication failure and checking the connection is fully inserted | Not seen |
| Lights normal but offline | The guide's troubleshooting section covers this case and mentions about 3 minutes | Not seen |
| No registration code | The guide says the code comes from the installer or distributor | We had no reply for more than three business days and guessed |
What we did not verify
- Our dongle was the original one that shipped with the inverter in early 2024. EG4's guide above is dated 2025 and describes its current Wi-Fi/Ethernet Monitoring Adapter, which may differ from ours in its lights and setup.
- We did not test any character or length limit for Wi-Fi names or passwords.
- We did not verify what the registration code is or whether it is the same for everyone.
- We did not test a 5 GHz network or Wi-Fi 6 router ourselves; those statements are EG4's.
- EG4's guide describes the slow-flashing IP light inconsistently: in its Wi-Fi setup note and in its troubleshooting section, so we do not rely on the flashing speed to tell the mode.
- We did not verify that deleting an account never releases a device; that is what we ran into once.
Questions and answers
Why does a 5 GHz network not work with the EG4 dongle?
EG4's guide says the dongle supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
Where do I get the registration code?
EG4's guide says it comes from the installation personnel or the distributor, and lists support@eg4electronics.com for EG4 support.
Is the dongle in this note the same one as in EG4's current guide?
Probably not exactly. Ours was the original dongle that shipped with the 6000XP in early 2024, and EG4's guide is dated 2025.
