EG4 Inverters and AOLITHIUM Server Rack Batteries: What EG4 Documents and What We Saw
EG4's 6000XP compatibility list does not name AOLITHIUM. What EG4 documents, and what showed on our inverter screens in two videos.

What the manufacturer documents
- The EG4 6000XP user manual, version 1.7.3, lists support for CAN or RS485 for lithium battery communications and has a procedure for setting up closed-loop communication with compatible battery modules, plus a table for the inverter's communication port. We do not reproduce them here; see the manual. (eg4electronics.com)
- The same manual's troubleshooting table for a battery communication failure says to check the battery DIP switch settings and to verify, using the battery compatibility list, that a supported battery protocol is configured. (eg4electronics.com)
- EG4's 6000XP Battery Compatibility List, version 1.0, tabulates battery brands with a protocol type and compatible battery models. The brands it names are HINAESS, EG4, Homegrid, Pylon, UZ Energy, Pytes, Renogy, Sunwoda, Fortress, GSL Energy, BigBattery, BSL BATT, Volthium and Meritsun. AOLITHIUM is not among them. The list is dated 2024 and says information is subject to change without notice. (eg4electronics.com)
- EG4's specification sheet for the 3000EHV-48, version 1.1.2, lists RS-232 and RS-485 communication ports, a dry contact and a built-in RJ45 parallel port with CAN for parallel communication. For RS-485 it lists USB Type A. It does not list any battery brands or battery protocols. We did not find a 3000EHV-48 user manual on EG4's website, so we cite no EG4 statement about which batteries or protocol settings the 3000EHV-48 supports. (eg4electronics.com)
- EG4's Indoor 280Ah battery quick start guide, version 1.4.0, is a guide for a different EG4 battery and does not mention AOLITHIUM. Its table of communication cable connections by EG4 inverter model labels the 3000EHV as a legacy product with RS485 through a USB Type B connector on the inverter side. This differs from the 3000EHV-48 specification sheet's USB Type A. We do not choose between them, and the guide does not describe the AOLITHIUM setup. (eg4electronics.com)
What happened to us
- In the 6000XP video the owner said he had used the 6000XP over the previous few months with many batteries, including AOLITHIUM and EG4 LifePower4, and that he usually had it communicating with the LifePower4 batteries. In this video he set out to show it communicating with the AOLITHIUM batteries. At the end he said he personally does not use communication between this inverter and the AOLITHIUM batteries, because his system is connected to LifePower4 batteries with communication set up that way. (video)
- He had six batteries in view, all electrically connected, and said that only three of the AOLITHIUM batteries were set up for communication in this video. He said he connected the inverter to the batteries and configured both the inverter and the batteries for communication, following the manuals. This note does not give the cable, port or settings details; EG4's 6000XP manual has a procedure for battery communication and we point to it. (video)
- He then showed the inverter screen, saying that battery communication was working and that everything was normal. He read about 51.7 volts and about 78 percent capacity. He checked the batteries' own displays, which he said read about 53, 90 and 90 percent, and said the inverter's figure looked like roughly the combination of those three. He remarked that one of his batteries is always behind the others, which he guessed was due to his electrical setup. (video)
- In the monitoring app he said the inverter recognised three batteries and that he was running the latest firmware at the time of recording (the version is not recorded). He said the parameters did not line up with what he expected: the app showed a battery capacity of about 150 Ah where he expected about 300 for three 100 Ah batteries, and charge and discharge limits he read as about 240 and 270, which he said looked high against the charge figure in the battery's manual. He said he did not know whether this was correct or whether it was something to take up with the battery maker, and that what did work was the inverter knowing the number of batteries connected. (video)
- He closed by saying that, in his words, it is possible to use the 6000XP with the AOLITHIUM batteries with communication, and that he had been asked often whether this works. The video shows one demonstration; it does not show how long it stayed working. (video)
- In the 3kW inverter video the owner said the inverter was moved to that spot only for the demonstration, as a temporary setup separate from his normal system. He said the battery was being charged back up toward its earlier voltage, and that the inverter screen showed battery communication working and the battery at about 81 percent. (video)
- He said he had configured the inverter and the first battery for communication and that the battery then communicated with the inverter, using what he called the Pylon Tech protocol 'or whatever it is', so he was not certain of the protocol name. The cable, port and settings are not given here; the cable's maker, length and the exact connector type are not recorded. (video)
- He added a second battery for communication only. He said the two packs were not connected electrically and that he did not recommend that arrangement beyond the demonstration. One pack read about 99 percent and the other about 81 percent, and the inverter then showed the battery bank at about 90 percent, which he took to be an average of the two. He said he had also connected about three in parallel as a check and that it worked. (video)
- He also said he had run this inverter with other batteries without battery communication. He said he made this video because many people like having communication. (video)
- He said the 3kW setup was temporary and that he would probably take it down soon after the video. (video)
What EG4 documents compared with what we saw
| Point | What EG4 documents | What the owner said or showed |
|---|---|---|
| AOLITHIUM on EG4's battery list | The 6000XP Battery Compatibility List, version 1.0, does not list AOLITHIUM as a brand | In both videos the owner said battery information showed on the inverter screen |
| What the inverter reported | Not a manufacturer figure | 6000XP: about 78 percent while the batteries' own displays read about 53, 90 and 90 percent, as he said |
| Battery setting on the 3kW inverter | The 3000EHV-48 specification sheet lists no battery brands or protocols, and we found no manual for it | Not reproduced here. Inverter model: the video title says 3 kW, and the model is not recorded |
| Connector at the 3000EHV-48 end of RS-485 | The 3000EHV-48 specification sheet says USB Type A. A guide for a different EG4 battery says USB Type B. The two EG4 documents differ | The owner describes a USB-to-Ethernet converter that came with the inverter; whether its USB end is Type A or Type B is not recorded |
| Several batteries | The 6000XP troubleshooting table says to check the battery DIP switches when communication fails | 6000XP: the inverter app showed three batteries but a capacity he said looked low (about 150 Ah). 3kW: a bank percentage was shown on the screen |
What we did not verify
- We did not cite the battery maker's own documents, because that site is not one of the manufacturer sources this site cites. This note therefore says nothing about what AOLITHIUM documents for its battery's communication ports, protocols or DIP switch addresses.
- EG4's 6000XP Battery Compatibility List, version 1.0, does not name AOLITHIUM. That the owner's screens showed battery information does not mean EG4 or AOLITHIUM approve or support this pairing, and we found no statement from either that they do.
- For battery-brand and protocol support claims about the 3kW inverter, the 3000EHV-48 specification sheet is the only EG4 document we cite, and it lists no battery brands or protocols. At the time of our research (October 2026) we found no 3000EHV-48 user manual or battery compatibility list on EG4's website. The Indoor 280Ah guide is cited only for the connector disagreement with the specification sheet. Neither document establishes AOLITHIUM support. EG4 lists the 3000EHV-48 as a legacy product.
- The videos are from 2024 and the EG4 documents we cite are the versions currently on its website, which may differ from what applied then. We have not re-tested since the videos.
- Not recorded: the inverter firmware version in either video (in the 6000XP video the owner called the firmware the latest at the time of recording, without a version); the AOLITHIUM battery model number and battery firmware (in the 3kW video he described a 48 volt, 100 amp hour, 5 kWh server rack battery, with no model given); the cable's maker, length and part number and the exact connector type in either video (the owner describes the cables as ones that came with the inverters); and whether anyone at EG4 or AOLITHIUM confirmed this pairing. The 3kW video's title says a 3 kW inverter, and its model is not recorded in the transcript, so we do not state it as a 3000EHV-48.
- The owner's remark that the bank percentage looked like an average is his interpretation and we did not check how the inverter calculates it.
- The 6000XP video had three batteries in communication; in the 3kW video the owner said he first used one battery and then connected about three in parallel as a check. The 3kW inverter video was a temporary demonstration with batteries not electrically connected. We did not test charge or discharge limits against the battery maker's figures.
- This note does not give the cable, port, DIP switch or inverter settings details from the videos. EG4's 6000XP manual has a procedure for battery communication and we point to it instead of repeating it.
- Percentages, volts, capacity and limits are approximate readings from speech in the transcripts, not our measurements. In the 6000XP video the owner said the inverter's capacity and charge and discharge limits did not match what he expected and that he did not know whether that was correct; we did not check them against any manual or the battery maker's figures.
- The 6000XP video shows one demonstration and does not show how long communication stayed working. The owner said he does not himself use communication with these batteries. Nothing here shows the pairing is supported or suitable.
- Whether the system is still running this way is not recorded. In the 6000XP video the owner said he does not himself use communication between this inverter and the AOLITHIUM batteries. In the 3kW video he said he would probably take the temporary setup down soon after the video.
Questions and answers
